2 NATIVE AMERICAN HANDMADE LEATHER COVERS. This listing features 2 different handmade cushions or pillow covers from my grandmother's estate. I found no provenance with them so I have no idea where or when she acquired them or if they served a specific purpose. They look Native American to my eye and it's hard to believe they're not authentic, older pieces because they were stored with all her other 1920s-1950s stuff.

I'd love to learn more about them if anyone can share wisdom. The dark brown cover measures approximately 16 inches in diameter with 1 3/4 inch fringe by 5-6 inches thick, if filled like an average bed pillow (conservative guess). Note the coolstylized scorpion designs. The medium brown cover measures approximately 16 1/2 inches in diameter with 1 3/4 inch fringe by a 9 inches tall gusset, if filled densely.

They are sturdy, weighty, and stiff with time but not brittle or dry-rotted. I see no reason they could not be used with care again or admired as decor. I'm told this leather can be reconditioned but leatherwork is not my wheelhouse (I don't think it's necessary). Both are color worn in folded areas but have multi-colored leather decorations, including snakeskin (which looks genuine to me), and whip-stitched leather details.

They are sewn completely by hand. The medium brown cover has a few small areas of staining but none of the stitching anywhere, on either cushion, is broken. Both covers have openings for easy filling. I've been around enough antiques to sense a standout and I think these covers are special if not rare. At the very least, they are beautifully handcrafted pieces worth preserving. Please inspect all of the photos to see exactly what you will receive.
